Stucco mesh is up

Looks like the stucco mesh is up on the outside. Next step: "brown coat" for the outside. Although it has been warm this week - I imagine the weather will turn cold sooner than they can get the final coat on. That will probably wait for next spring.
Sue took the day off today and we had lots of fun finalizing countertops, tile and furniture shopping. Can't wait to be done! Still looking like we will be in for mid-December.

Drywall up - main floor

Over the past 2 days the drywall was hung. Still need drywall in new bedroom and basement ceiling. Everyone said that it would look smaller once the drywall was installed - but I think it still looks like I expected.

Getting ready for stucco and drywall

Looks like the stucco crew arrived this morning. It will take a couple of days to put up the wire mesh. Lots of pounding! Then the "brown coat" will be applied.

I talked to Tim the drywall man and he is also expecting to start next week.

Electrical and hvac this week

Monday and Tuesday were big days. HVAC guys came and put in the duct work for the new addition. Also, we now have another room and closet in the main floor that are ripped up from the work. Always something! At least the main floor is uniformly heated and cooled now.

The electrician has been here roughing in the wiring. He has made his own special kind of mess too!

Ok. Looks like a red van just pulled up with a van full of characters. If I had to bet, I will bet they are roofers. So we may have our roof completed today too!

Interior construction underway

90% of interior demolition is completed. Danny and Mike moved out of their upstairs room last night in preparation for the windows and door work on their "new" room. We cleaned up their room last night in preparation. The exterior windows from their room are moving to the new exterior wall. They will get a pocket door between the two rooms. Sue and I were wondering why we didn't think to move OUR room there - it will be nice and sunny with big closets.

Once they start the upstairs work - we will have construction and dust ON ALL THREE FLOORS. Yee hah.

No new photos today as it looks pretty much the same. The guys are starting to put up some new interior walls and finished most of the demo. Check back again soon!

Amazing what you find at the end of the day

You just never know what you are going to find at the end of a long day!

Interior Demolition Day 1

Guess what Sue did all weekend? Moved the entire kitchen downstairs into our
old laundry room. Joe and the boys were a great help also.

There was lots of banging around today, with many saw-zall blades getting
worn out. The workmen are tryint to fill up the large dumpster with
demolition debris. Hey -- that used to be my wall! Here are two shots of our
new interior -- one looking toward what used to be the kitchen across the
old dining room, and one looking from the kitchen, across the dining room
and into what used to be the guest room.

Sure am glad I have noise-reduction headphones. I usually sit upstairs all
day, listen to music, read a little, watch a movie, and try to rest &
recover.

The Plans

Here's a quick preview of the plans. Basically, we are adding on a great
room in the back of the house, taking up where some of the current deck
sits. Then we are moving the kitchen over to the old guest room, turning the
dining room and keeping part of the old kitchen as a mud room. Upstairs
above the great room will be a new bedroom for the two boys. We can't wait
for it to be done (hopefully by Christmas)!

Because we are nuts, and don't have enough to worry about -- we started a construction project last week on our house. We're moving the kitchen over to the other side of the house, turning the dining room, and adding a family room off the back. Check back for photos and pictures. I will keep this up to date every day or two. - Doug
